Reproduction of Albert Bierstadt (American, b. Germany, 1830–1902) The Rocky Mountains, Lander’s Peak (detail), 1863. Published with the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Crossing the North American continent in the years before the Civil War, men and women of European descent encountered wilderness on a scale that demanded new ways of seeing. They took the measure of the land with a surveyor’s tools and captured it with the new photographic technology. A Romantic painter of the Hudson River school, Albert Bierstadt made both oil sketches and stereoscopic photographs of the people and places he encountered during a voyage from New York to the Rocky Mountains. Four years later, back in his Manhattan studio, the artist produced the large canvas reproduced here, with its Indian camp in the foreground and misty peaks of Wyoming’s Wind River Range in the distance.

Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, Pomegranate's interlocking jigsaw puzzles combine superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and heirloom - quality construction to delight generations of puzzle solvers.
