The Course of Empire: The Consummation of Empire, 1836, by Thomas Cole (American, b. England, 1801 - 1848). Cole was primarily a painter of landscapes, but he also painted allegorical works. The most famous of these are the five-part series, The Course of Empire, which depict the same landscape over generations—from a near state of nature to consummation of empire, and then decline and desolution—now in the collection of the New York Historical Society.
Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, Pomegranate's 1000 - piece interlocking jigsaw puzzles combine superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and sturdy construction to delight generations of novice and veteran puzzleworkers.
