Good Grief

As puzzle fans, we all know the benefits of jigsaw puzzles. Puzzling improves our focus, concentration, and attention to detail. But in my opinion, the greatest benefit is the incredible magic that puzzles work in our brains...CONTINUE READING

Jigsaw-Nationals-2024

At the end of March, I had the pleasure of participating in the USA Jigsaw Puzzle Association National Championships.

Some brief history - the USA Jigsaw Puzzle Association was formed in 2020 by 5 motivated puzzlers. They are the official American liaison to the World Jigsaw Puzzle Federation to help puzzlers compete at Worlds. Their first national event was held in 2022 and boasted hundreds of participants, multiple vendors and a packed schedule of activities along with speed puzzling competitions for individuals, pairs and teams...CONTINUE READING

Map-Puzzles-2024

Who needs GPS when you have maps- map puzzles that is. Technology can be both good and bad. Like anything there’s pros and cons to it. I’m not the best with directions and often need to use the GPS on my phone and my car at the same time. Even with such technological advancements, I still manage to miss turns and get lost. That being said (and I know I’m dating myself by disclosing the following) I prefer traditional maps. Note that I said I prefer them…not that I use them. I mean can you even imagine what my passengers would think if I unfolded a paper map to get to where I’m going? It would be comical to say the least...CONTINUE READING

Bike to Work Day

I got my first bicycle when I was 7 or 8 years old. It was a purple Schwinn, with a banana seat. I didn’t have a sissy bar because I thought it would just get in the way. When I was 10 or 11 I got my first ten-speed bike, the Free Spirit from Sears. It’s easy to remember this one because, although it was a Christmas present, I had to pay for half of it myself. I spent the whole year saving money, storing it in a little brown envelope in my top dresser drawer. It was so exciting to hand the cash to my parents and to finally have a bike with gears!...CONTINUE READING

World-Cocktail-Day-2024!

Usually when I’m puzzling, my beverage of choice is usually a cup of tea or coffee. Not today! It is World Cocktail Day and am deciding between my traditional Gin and Tonic or if I want to try something a bit more fun. I’ve done plenty of puzzles with cocktails in the image but to be honest, this my first time celebrating this as a holiday, and only because I’ve now learned about it for this blog. Before we get into the puzzles, here’s a little history lesson...CONTINUE READING

Coke-Day-2024

When I discovered that May 8th is National Have a Coke Day, it was the perfect topic for my blog this month! Coca-Cola is such an iconic brand that brings back so many great memories of my childhood. As I’ve run across them the last couple of years, I’ve been adding Coca-Cola themed puzzles to my collection, so a day dedicated to all things Coke was a perfect excuse to pick up a few more to put together and share with you!...CONTINUE READING

Funny-Business

For those of you who, like me, love illustrated puzzles, it’s time to celebrate because May 5th is National Cartoonists Day! On this day in 1895 readers of the New York World opened their paper to discover a colorful new feature in their paper - the first comic strip, Hogan’s Alley (which became The Yellow Kid) created by Richard Outcault. When I was young, I’d arm-wrestle my sister for first go at the Sunday funnies, would plonk down in front of the TV set for hours watching cartoons, and now that I’m grown, my shelves are groaning with cartoon puzzles. I guess I’m still a big kid at heart!...CONTINUE READING

Today is the day Star Wars fans wait for all year long…and it's finally here! May the 4th be with you. The day where we can nerd out and wave our Rebellion or Empire flags. Are you on the light side or dark side? Are you into the original Star Wars or the newer ones? Are you a fan of the Disney+  Mandalorian or Boba Fett series? Do you still call him Baby Yoda? Or are you a rule follower and call him by his name - Grogu? When it comes to Star Wars, there are no rules. Just passion and extreme fandom!...CONTINUE READING

Inexplicably-Mushrooms

I’m not quite sure why, but mushroom and bumblebee imagery gets me every time! I admit I have plenty of home decor of both, and of course I gravitate toward puzzles of these themes as well. I really can’t explain it (I don’t even like to eat mushrooms!), but perhaps it’s best to embrace it and just share my recent puzzling mushroom adventure!...CONTINUE READING
