Wysocki-2024

Thanks to my Mom’s love of early American decorating and design, I grew up a big fan of painter Charles Wysocki and my large (and still growing!) shelf space devoted to Wysocki puzzles is a testament to that. Obviously, there are a lot of us out there, with Facebook groups for his fans to sell and swap items, an annual calendar, and the fine folks at Buffalo Games regularly releasing new puzzles. Although he passed away in 2002, his art remains as popular as ever...CONTINUE READING

Postage-Themed-Puzzles

I’ve never been a full-fledged philatelist, but I’ve enjoyed collecting stamps since I was a kid, mostly to decorate scrapbook pages and journals. Since I’ve always sent lots of cards and letters, traveling postcards, and have had quite a few pen pals over the years, picking a special stamp for the envelope is just another fun way to express myself. My friends are amused at how often I manage to coordinate the design on the card, the stamp, and all my embellishments on the envelope!...CONTINUE READING

Couples-Day-2024

If you spend any time at all on social media, you’ve no doubt noticed that there’s a “Day” to commemorate just about anything, from the serious (World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10th) to the silly (Fruitcake Toss Day, January 3rd.) Imagine my delight to discover that August 18th is National Couples Day! Besides being a day to “honor the love, commitment, and companionship that couples share” it’s the perfect opportunity to discover the huge variety of puzzles that feature couples!...CONTINUE READING

Fairs-Festivals

I will never be accused of being a hot weather fan. For me, the heat and humidity of summer is the perfect excuse to sit in the air-conditioned splendor and work on a jigsaw puzzle. What does get me outside despite those sultry, sunny summer temps? I’m a big fan of the fairs, festivals and farmers markets that come with the season!

Some of my favorite events are the annual art fairs in my hometown and in my adopted city, that I’ve attended for years. As an artsy person myself, I can spend hours browsing booths, getting inspired by all the creativity, and finding a one-of-a-kind piece for myself or a gift and support local artists! New York Puzzle Company’s 1000 piece Art Festival is one of over 100 New Yorker covers by illustrator and cartoonist Garret Price, who worked for the magazine for over 50 years...CONTINUE READING

Happy-Camper-2024

It started out innocently enough. Since we purchased our camper eight years ago, I’ve always considered it to be my guilt-free getaway. The place where I can indulge in all the books, art projects, long walks with the dogs and naps that I want, away from all the stuff I should be doing when I’m home. Now that we have a year-round spot along the river just 30 minutes away, I’ve dubbed the camper my Growlery, defined as “a place of refuge or sanctuary for use while one is out of sorts or in an ill humor.”...CONTINUE READING

Coke-Day-2024

When I discovered that May 8th is National Have a Coke Day, it was the perfect topic for my blog this month! Coca-Cola is such an iconic brand that brings back so many great memories of my childhood. As I’ve run across them the last couple of years, I’ve been adding Coca-Cola themed puzzles to my collection, so a day dedicated to all things Coke was a perfect excuse to pick up a few more to put together and share with you!...CONTINUE READING

Heritage Day

When I saw that April 18th is the International Day for Monuments and Sites (also known as World Heritage Day) I thought it was a great topic for this month’s puzzle blog. There is such a huge variety of puzzles featuring famous sites from around the world in a such a variety of styles, I figured there were plenty of choices for my fellow dissectologists, no matter what your taste!...CONTINUE READING

World-Wildlife-Day

Besides being a dedicated dissectologist, I’m also a very zealous zoophilist. I absolutely adore animals—furred, feathered, finned—I find them all fascinating. No surprise then that my stash includes a plethora of animal and wildlife-themed puzzles of all kinds. It’s only fitting that my blog for this month celebrates World Wildlife Day...CONTINUE READING

Dog-Walk

Whether you’re a full-fledged jigsaw junkie or an occasional, casual puzzler I’m sure you can relate. Sometimes it’s so easy to get absorbed in a puzzle that you lose all track of time. I tend to do this far more than I care to admit. Sometimes the only thing that breaks my puzzling reverie is the sound of muttering and mumbling by someone none too happy at being ignored. “Just a couple more pieces…” I answer, and when “a couple” invariably becomes ten or twenty pieces, the impatient mumbling turns into a few loud woofs from under my puzzle table. Bounce is clearly stating that it is—once again—long past time for his walk...CONTINUE READING
