Publisher: Ravensburger (Germany), published Feb 2015 Title:  “Best of British #12: The County Park”, Artist: Geoff Tristram, 1000 pieces  OUR RATING: 10 I love the "Best of British" series because they're both humorous cartoon puzzles and British/Anglophile puzzles at once. And of course, the artwork by Geoff Tristram (see our interview with Geoff here) is always clean... CONTINUE READING

Gibsons is a high-quality puzzle brand from the UK with beautiful blue boxes, very thick pieces, a standard grid cut, and a waxy matte finish. Their Mike Jupp series of "I Love..." puzzles are some of the best cartoon puzzles on the market. The art work is of exceptional quality and has a wealth of fine detail. "I Love London" is a comic look at the great city of London with a range of crazy characters. You'll have a lot of fun assembling this puzzle and getting a closer look at the sight gags and mini stories within the scene. Assembly is easy-to-moderate with no one area being especially difficult. You may find yourself referencing the box lid a lot! Gibsons is a high-quality puzzle brand from the UK with beautiful blue boxes, very thick pieces, and a waxy matte finish. Their Mike Jupp series of "I Love..." puzzles is enormously popular in the UK and for good reason. These busy cartoon puzzles are filled with fine detail, bright colors, and humorous sight gags. It's fun to discover all the characters and animals as you piece this puzzle together. The grid cut, seamless finish, and excellent image reproduction all mark this as a AAA brand with an excellent tactile feel. Due to the standard piece cut, some pieces may appear to go where they don't belong, which makes this brand more challenging to work than some. If you like cartoon puzzles, you'll definitely want to check out the Mike Jupp puzzles in this series. "I Love Gardening" is ideal for those who have a green thumb or just like a moderately difficult and detailed puzzle... CONTINUE READING

This is a gorgeous 2000-piece puzzle in a bright and fun cartoon style that should appeal to men and women alike. The colors are lovely, and there’s a lot of detail in this scene. The large size and the sketchy cartoon art style make this puzzle more challenging than most. Be prepared for a serious puzzling effort! The final puzzle is very large at 38.5″ x 26.5″ and feels like a major accomplishment. The finish is flat and smooth and the puzzle would look good framed. The Buffalo Games quality is quite good and pleasant to assemble, though there can be glare off the glossy surface under strong overhead lights. Recommended for those like cartoon puzzles, puzzles in larger sizes, or those are looking for something a little more challenging... CONTINUE READING

I just happened to run across photos of the 2016 Heye puzzles on Facebook. Are 2016 puzzles here already! I'm not going to complain. There are some nice new puzzles. According to Facebook these will be available from the end of November, presumably in Germany first... CONTINUE READING

If you've up for a challenge, "Story of Wine" by Francois Ruyer is a ton of fun. The image is super cute with lots of crazy characters and vibrant color. There are plenty of jokes and mini-stories to reveal as you assemble the pieces. The Piatnik quality is very good with thick, sturdy pieces, a grid cut, a fairly tight fit, and a nice matte finish. However, there are lots of similar two-knob, two-hole pieces which make a few areas, like the random red tiles on the roofs, challenging because pieces can appear to fit where they don't go. There're also lots of repeating elements such as the big red noses. This isn't a fast and easy puzzle, but it is rewarding and very satisfying to complete. Recommended if you like busy cartoon puzzles or are looking for something to keep you occupied for a good while.. CONTINUE READING
