On the Giza Plateau, the site of the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza dominate the landscape and are among the most recognized structures in the world. The Pyramids of Giza are the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and are believed to be the oldest of the seven even though time of completion is disputed. The Sphinx was not assembled piece by piece but was carved from a single mass of limestone exposed when workers dug a horseshoe-shaped quarry in the Giza plateau. It is one of the largest and oldest monolithic statues in the world. This painting allows for this to become a good puzzle to do with the sky broken up with the paint strokes and more contrast in the normally dull landscape in the foreground. Shadows on the structures allow for more contrast on the pyramids and Sphinx that dominate the image. Finished size 19.3" x 14.2"
