In the 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, Cookbooks (General Mills) by White Mountain, a wonderfully crafted collage of Betty Crocker cookbooks and editions is depicted. Even though most of us grew up with Betty and might even feel that we know her personally, she wasn’t a real person! She was “born” in 1921 as an advertising campaign following a contest in the Saturday Evening Post. She became a familiar face when her portrait was first commissioned in 1936, and in 1954 General Mills came up with the famous red spoon logo as Betty’s sign of approval.
