National Grandparents Day!
Every Sunday following Labor Day is National Grandparents Day, a day created by Marian McQuade in order to champion the lonely elderly in nursing homes and to encourage grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage that their grandparents could provide. Jimmy Carter proclaimed the holiday in 1978.
My grandparents have always had a fascinating wealth of knowledge, and I've always said that I would love to be friends with them even if we aren't related. My maternal grandmother can recite our entire family history back so many generations, I can't even count them! My maternal grandfather is a skilled woodworker; he helped me build two bookshelves which are among my favorite possessions. My paternal grandparents taught me to cook.
I remember as a child playing card and board games with my grandparents, pretending to host tea time (to which my own grandfather played along very enthusiastically). We have several puzzles which capture the love between a grandparent and grandchild—all to help you bring back memories of these special figures in our lives. Do any of these puzzles remind you of your own grandparents? Let us know in the comments!
