Luncheon of the Boating Party Impressionism & Post-Impressionism Jigsaw Puzzle
  • Luncheon of the Boating Party Impressionism & Post-Impressionism Jigsaw Puzzle

Luncheon of the Boating Party, 1880–1881 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841–1919). Luncheon of the Boating Party is part of The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC. Puzzle measures 27" x 20" when complete. Released March 2015.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841–1919) is one of the most well-loved painters in the history of modern art. After exhibiting with the Impressionists in the 1870s and early 1880s, Renoir went on to paint for three more decades, focusing on the bucolic landscapes of the south of France, idealized bathing groups, scenes of his family, and portraiture. His paintings are charming and accessible, yet often boldly experimental, with loose brushstrokes and unexpected compositional arrangements. Renoir’s mastery of color and facility in the handling of paint won him the admiration of his peers, including Henri Matisse, and continue to astonish us today.

Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, Pomegranate's 1000-Piece interlocking jigsaw puzzles combine superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and heirloom-quality construction to delight generations of puzzle solvers.

The Luncheon of the Boating Party for the first puzzle is a challenge. The green of the glass bottles is definitely not the green of the tree. Difficulty finding the little dog. I love having found the faces, the lace collar around the lady, and the awning. Thank you very much....in progress!

The colors of this puzzle are more muted than the picture on the website. Good quality materials makes the puzzle easier to do.

Again I have problems with the ones that are paintings as the colors again on this one were not as strong so the pieces blurred in color as if there was a wash over the whole puzzle.

The colors were muted and hazy as are all the artist's paintings. Will have to get back to it later.

We started this puzzle but only got a bit past the outer edges. Because the colors are muted, typical for Impressionist paintings, and there are few sharp lines, it was extremely difficult to do. Experience-wise, we have done probably a dozen 1000-pc puzzles with average difficulty. The actual puzzle is very high quality. The paperboard is very sturdy and the pieces are cleanly cut. The colors are good, although I found them less bold than the image here shows. Maybe it's my eyes instead of the puzzle. If you are an expert puzzler, give it a try. Otherwise, you might want to choose an easier one.

This puzzle is well made with sturdy pieces and a nice finish, not too shiny like some puzzles. We wanted something challenging that would take a while to complete and this puzzle is a challenge! One of my favorite paintings it is enjoyable spending time pouring over the image finding every little detail to fit the pieces together.

This was a very difficult puzzle to put together mostly because of the impressionist lines, but it was great fun! Highly recommend.

I have been looking for this puzzle for a long time. Could not find locally and most online sources had prohibitive shipping fees, but found on puzzlewarehouse.com

Still at it...great challenge, but doable. That is a perfect mix.
