Mackinac Island, although only less than 4.5 square miles large, is a major tourist attraction. It is located in the Straits of Mackinac, just east of the Mackinac Bridge. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the island, so horses and bicycles abound, as well as many tourists that swarm the downtown area on foot.
