Manatees, often referred to as sea cows, are slow-moving plant-eaters with a peaceful and affectionate demeanor. In fact, they can eat up to 100 pounds of freshwater and saltwater plants per day! Manatees "graze" by using their flippers to "walk" along the bottom of the waterway and scoop plants or roots towards their mouths. These slow-moving creatures have no natural predators but are in constant danger from propeller-driven boats and ships, leading frequently to injury or even death.
