The light at the end of the east breakwater has aided navigation since 1916. The light that shines out over Lake Michigan has been automated since 1969. A long boardwalk winds along the Lake Michigan shoreline on the outskirts of Manistique. There is ample parking to be found at various point along the boardwalk.
