Many changes have been made to the lights that illuminate the entrance to the Muskegon channel since the first official light shone here in 1851. In 2010, the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy took control of both of the Muskegon Lights. Tours of the Southern Pier Light are available during specified hours during the summer months.
