Alexander Chen (b. 1952 in China) is an artist split between his love for city life and the countryside. He immigrated to the US as an adult and his paintings reflect his love for America’s mix of bustling cities and beautiful national parks. He defines his style as “hyperrealist.” First he takes hundreds of photos of a scene, then begins painting with such detail that no person, bird, advertisement, stoplight, or window is left out. His subjects are often popular travel destinations such as Key West, Las Vegas, and Boston.
