Beach or Mountains?
A question as old as time … Beach or Mountains?
When I was a kid, we had a storybook called “The Flintstones Take a Vacation.”
In the opening scene, Wilma and Fred are discussing whether or not they should go to the beach or to the mountains for their vacation.
Wilma wants to go to the beach and relax by the ocean,
watch the palm trees swaying in the sea breeze,
and read a book under a beach umbrella.
Fred complains that he doesn’t like crabs,
seagulls bother him,
and things in the water give him the heebeegeebeez.
Instead, Fred argues for the mountains. We can have a picnic and go hiking and swimming.
We can make coffee over the campfire in the morning.
Pebbles and BamBam can see woodland creatures,
pick wildflowers,
and watch birds flying in the cool mountain air.
Wilma points out that there are mountain lions,
bears,
and snakes in the woods!
Wilma reminds Fred that Pebbles and BamBam can build sandcastles,
play volleyball,
and go snorkeling.
“Just think, Fred,” Wilma says, “We can sip umbrella drinks in the tropical breeze,
sit hand in hand along the shore,
and listen to the mesmerizing sound of the ocean waves as we go to sleep.”
Guess where Wilma and Fred decide to go on their vacation?
