We All Scream for Ice Cream

Ice cream is said to be the most patriotic food in the US and is considered a national symbol of America. I could write a whole blogpost just on the history of ice cream but I’ll just redirect you to this article on the History of Ice Cream in the US. If you want the cliff notes version, ice cream was a symbol of the US during World War I when sugar was rationed world wide.  “By the time World War II occurred, ice cream had become inseparable from the American way of life, an emblem of American comfort, freedom, and democracy (Siegel, 2021). While the rest of the world banned ice cream as part of their rationing efforts, the US doubled down and built ice cream factories on the front lines to deliver ice cream to allied ships, distributing 135 million pounds of dehydrated ice cream base in 1943 alone. Thanks to President Reagan in 1984, July became National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of July, was proclaimed National Ice Cream Day.  It is your patriotic duty to eat ice cream.

Ice Cream boat ride

My parents own an ice cream boat, so it seemed fitting to be the one to write a blogpost for National Ice Cream Day. Yes, you saw that correctly an ice cream boat. Similar to what you’d see in Ice Cream Truck Day by RoseArt, my parents sell novelty ice cream on a pontoon boat in Maine during the summer months. I had a blast helping them out during my visit to Maine on Fourth of July. (Pictured above) Even if you don’t have family in the ice cream industry, you probably have had the frozen sweet treat. It is such a staple in most families and for me, ice cream puzzles just give me that sense of nostalgia.

Favorite Sweets by Trefl was such a fun quick puzzle! They have such fun images and this puzzle did not disappoint. I did this one during a Youtube live and LOVED it. The puzzle was so colorful. It was quick and easy since it is a little collage of ice cream and candy. At 500 pieces it went quite fast. The pinks, yellow, and blue backgrounds made it very clear which area I was working on.

Dan’s Ice Cream Van by Eurographics was another super fun ice cream puzzle I did recently. This one was 1000 pieces but it did not feel like it! If you are a newer puzzler and want to step your foot into a larger piece count, this one is very doable. There is a lot of stuff to work with and I ended up going from the top down as there are very distinct layers to work with. I loved the bright blue and pink truck, the red & white awning and enjoyed the different ice cream visitors. The only area that was a little tricky was the green leaves in the top right corner. This one does have only one style of piece shape and that was the only area where it hindered me. I really did enjoyed this one!

If you like a bit more of a wild and chaotic image, Ice Cream Party by Eurographics is for you. I mean, that color!!!! It is so fun and bright and just full of ice cream toppings and treats. I have not done this one yet, but the colorful image is very tempting.  It looks so lively and a bit more of an intermediate difficulty. I think this one would be great on a dreary rainy day.

If you read my last blog, you’d know I’ve taken an interest in Master Pieces lately. I’ve done several from the brand in all sorts of piece counts and loved every single one. I think Anna’s Ice Cream Parlor needs to go on my wishlist. 750 pieces is such a great piece count and this image looks bright and colorful. I love seeing this vintage style image with the vibes of an old ice cream parlor. This brand has a great fit and hasn't had any issues with quality. “Anna's Ice Cream Parlor puzzle will transport you back to the good old days of enjoying delectable treats. Bring the joy of dessert into your home with this delightful puzzle.”

I hope I didn’t make you too hungry for an ice cream while reading this one. It was fun to look at all the ice cream puzzles at Puzzle Warehouse. I’d love to know your favorite flavor or novelty ice cream in the comments!
