Family Puzzles

Have you ever puzzled with a friend or family member who are normally not a puzzler? For me, I always feel like I’m taking over. To be honest, I don’t puzzle well with others cause I can’t seem to hold back. Over the past year, I’ve discovered Family style puzzles which I think is a great solution for those who want to puzzle with others, but there are different experience levels.

A few brands now make family style puzzles and the concept is pretty genius. These puzzles tend to be in the 300-400 piece range. What’s unique about them is that they have three sizes of pieces, located on three areas of the puzzle. They have jumbo sized pieces on one end, medium sized pieces in the middle and regular sized pieces on the other end. This makes it so multiple people can puzzle on different areas of the puzzle and go at their own pace.

puzzle piece sizes

I’ve tried several of them and am noticing more brands popping up with this concept. It’s a great way to puzzle with other people. I can work with the smaller pieces and the person who needs an easier side is puzzling at the other end. It’s easy to sort on the sizes of pieces, so you can truly work on opposite ends without interfering or feeling like you’re taking over.

Thanksgiving togetherness puzzle

Thanksgiving Togetherness

The first brand I had done was Cobble Hill. They call their collection Family Pieces and are 350 piece puzzles. I’ve done a few of their puzzles now, including Thanksgiving Togetherness and Storytime Kittens. Both were so much fun! I happened to do Thanksgiving Togetherness during the summer, but think it’d be the perfect activity during Thanksgiving break. Family activities not involving technology is something we always did when I was younger. Since the pieces have different sizes and difficulty, I don’t think frustration would run high. Unlike the chaos in the image, you may find the puzzle very enjoyable! Not only do they have different sizes of pieces, but you may find the smaller pieces quite a challenge. They use a whimsy cut of pieces, which may be tricky for some.

Disney Chef puzzle

Disney Chef

Ceaco also makes family style puzzles. They call them Together Time Puzzles and are 400 pieces. The concept is the same as Cobble Hill but many of the images tend to be a lot more youthful and cartoony. I did Disney Chef and LOVED it. I am a huge Disney fan and there are so many more cute images I’m eyeing. These lovable characters take to the kitchen to chef up some food. Ceaco’s Family puzzles includes three piece sizes, large for kids, medium for everyone, and small for the adults. While these puzzles are designed for families but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it on my own!

Avengers puzzle

Assemble

If you are wanting more grid cut pieces I’d suggest Buffalo Games. The big pieces are easier to handle and put together making them perfect for kids while the small pieces are still a challenge for adults. I say kids, but they may also be perfect for adults who also need larger pieces. Their family puzzles are 400 pieces and the images include Star Wars, Avengers & Pokemon. Assemble!  features your favorite Avengers superheroes, including Black Panther, Captain America, Iron Man, and more.

Now if you are wanting more challenging images, I’d suggest trying Springboks Family puzzles. Funny Duckie is a captivating collage of colorful duck toys, this puzzle will keep you entertained for hours. They have several other challenging images. I have not tried their Family puzzles but I would assume the puzzles have their thick squishy pieces. They have a VERY wild piece cut, so you may be in for quite the challenge!!

summer carnival puzzle

Summer Carnival

Finally we have Masterpieces. If you’ve read some of my more recent blogs, you’d know I’m currently in a budding love affair with the brand. Their Family Hour puzzles are 400 pieces. What I love about their Family puzzles is that they are necessarily geared towards children. While the images are still bright and colorful, the subject of the puzzles are more traditional. For example Creekside Gathering is a lovely cottage scene with animals. I also have been eyeing the puzzle, Summer Carnival which is perfect for a cozy puzzle session.

I thought I’d share the brands that do this style of thing all in one blog. Since they all call them something different, it can be tricky to search for them all in one go. Hopefully this helps and is useful for those who want to puzzle as a family!

Fantastic concept. I take my puzzles to a Senior and struggle to keep back when working with people who want to puzzle but need easier pieces. These will be a joy to puzzle with my friends there. The days of puzzling with the grandkids is long past and I miss the together. Thanks for the info.
