Extra Extra Read All About It – Puzzles with Words!

Extra Extra read all about it to learn about some of my most favorite puzzles with words. Puzzle Warehouse has a ton of these. Let me preface by saying font in and of itself is an artform. The shapes and slants of letters. I mean think about it. If you made a word bold, chances are you’d want what you’re writing to portray a strong message. Scrolly loopy font might not be the best choice to advertise a monster truck show. But hey, who am I to judge?

Puzzle Twist’s “Something’s Amiss!” series offers puzzles with a twist. This means that what you see on the box isn’t exactly what’s on the completed puzzle. It makes for a bit more of a challenging puzzle experience. Intentional Kindness is one of my favorite puzzles in their series because of its positive vibes.

Artist and fellow Puzzle Warehouse Ambassador, Robin Decaire, actually created this for the USA Jigsaw Puzzle Association. This 500-piece puzzle is a great way to test your speed puzzling skills so you can compare your speed with other puzzlers. Why? Because it was the first USAJPA Speed Run Puzzle.  Cool, huh?!?  The artwork is loaded with adorable animals that go with the text. I love how she mixed the swirly font with the hand-written style font.

Next up was a smaller puzzle at only 300-pieces by SunsOut called Words of Appreciation by artist Theresa King. This had a cool gradient background to it which I loved. You could see the texture in the artwork, too.

The doodle-style font reminded me of something I’d do while sitting in school. It really gave me a nostalgic vibe.

The contrast between the black font and the rainbow background made it interesting to solve. Oh, and did you see the little message between the arms?!?

Famous Feline Books is a 1,000-piece Re-Marks puzzle. Just look at how it’s comprised of lots of puzzles in one. Each book contains a totally different style font and a massive variety of colors among them.

It wouldn’t be my blog if I didn’t include a Galison puzzle. And out of all the puzzles included in this blog, this one has to be my absolute favorite.  In fact, I’ve had this puzzle for quite a while. It’s one of those puzzles that I didn’t want to take out to puzzle, because I didn’t want to finish it. I’m not sure if that makes sense. It’s kind of like when your reading a really good book that you don’t want to end, because it’s so good that you can’t put it down.  Phat Dog Vintage Pencils is this for me. It’s a 1,000-piece puzzle loaded with old school pencils.

It has accents of gold foil through out. That’s just so cool. No mechanical pencils here.

I really enjoyed looking for the pieces of colorful pencils and puzzling the words on each together.

Okay, I saved the best for last- well, I can’t decide, because this one is as awesome as the aforementioned puzzle…Eeboo’s 100 Great Words is a 500-piece round puzzle.

When I was younger, I used to have a word of the day calendar so I could learn big words. Mostly this was because I wanted to sound extra smart. Looking back, I most likely didn’t use them in the proper context, but hey, at least I tried. This puzzle reminded me of this. As I was puzzling, I looked up what some of these words meant, especially ones that I hadn’t heard of before. It was even fun quizzing my 97 year old grandmother.  She knew practically all of them!

How many of these do you know? I guess my vocabulary isn’t as extensive as I’d hoped. Haha But the variety in font style and color along with the different directions was beautifully done. I particularly enjoyed how Eeboo combined the elements such as the boxy, rectangular-shaped words onto a round puzzle. What a contrast!

Before I go, be sure to check out Peace, a 1000-piece Cobble Hill puzzle.

When this one was on my puzzle board, it even caught the interest of one of my teenage daughter’s non-puzzling friends.  Any puzzle that gets non-puzzlers, especially teenaged non-puzzlers to puzzle is a win for me.

Want to find more puzzles with font? Head on over to Puzzle Warehouse and check out all that Puzzle Warehouse has to offer. The options are endless.  But whatever you do, be sure to make time to puzzle!
