Why Were Jigsaw Puzzles Made
The jigsaw puzzle was made as a children's educational toy in the mid-1700s. However, they began as "dissected puzzles" when John Spilsbury, dissected his maps and cut countries out of them for children to learn with. After his invention was recognized in 1767, the demand continued to grow resulting in puzzles being cut by a jigsaw to save time and efficiency, thus creating the name "Jigsaw Puzzle". However, his invention still lives on as children's toys and games are regularly manufactured and put on the market to this day!
