The ability to create a pattern, a design that flows and seems effortless, is a skill few artists have mastered. Yet, this is exactly what Lou Kregel has been doing for the last 25 years. There is a mathematic precision to Kregel’s art that seems to work on an instinctive level, which is no accident. Working from her grandfather's drafting table with a trusty calculator at her side, Lou’s patterns are anything but random.
Born and raised in Texas and having studied textile design at the University of North Texas, Lou was inspired by the graphic ads of the 50’s, an age the artist describes as “…spaceships and sleek cars with fins and high heels”, blended with the bright bold colors of the 2 decades that followed. She’s developed a style that seems familiar, yet retro and fresh at the same time.
