Mount Rushmore National Memorial features massive stone sculptures of the heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln that are carved into the face of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota’s Black Hills. The work took place from 1927 to 1941. The project was designed and overseen by Gutzon Borglum, and completed by his son, Lincoln Borglum, after Gutzon’s death in 1941.More than 2 million visitors come to view this icon of the United States of America annually.
