Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse is still in operation, assisting navigators through the dangerous waters at the tip of the thumb in Michigan’s lower peninsula. The original lighthouse on these grounds lasted for less than 10 years before needing to be replaced. The current structure was erected in 1857 and was built with substantially better materials.A museum and gift shop are open daily from Memorial Day through the middle of October.
