Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was a Czech painter known best for his distinct Art Nouveau style. The style was an attempt to erase the boundaries and rules of art and make it so anything could be considered art, from wallpaper to metro stations. Mucha designed advertisements for champagne and stage sets and was most noted for his strong composition, sensuous curves inspired by nature, refined decorative elements, and natural colors. Later he began making postcards and panneaux that centered around sets of four (seasons, times of day, flowers, etc.) which are some of the most recognizable artworks done by this brilliant artist.
