Northern Lights, or “Aurora Borealis”, occur when solar storms throw charged particles toward earth. The earth’s magnetic shield deflects most of the storm, but at the magnetic poles some of the particles slip in. In the north, as these atoms collide with gas particles in our atmosphere, they light up, causing the famed Northern Lights. They are best viewed in the north on clear nights in area with little to no light pollution.
