Where Were Jigsaw Puzzles Invented
Jigsaw puzzles were first invented in London, dating back as far as the 18th century when puzzles were first made out of maps as educational toys. John Spilsbury was a well-known mapmaker and engraver, along his journey, he had a brilliant idea involving one of his maps! Most people are surprised to learn that the invention began by him cutting the countries out of his very own maps and using them as pieces. This helped uneducated children learn their way around a map and foreign countries which was a very important skill to have in the 1760s. However, we're honored to keep the puzzle history going and have already played a sizable role in it as Puzzle Warehouse is the largest jigsaw puzzle store in the USA!
