Summer puzzling looks a little different for me than the rest of the year. Living in Washington, I know the sunshine doesn't stick around forever, so when the warm weather finally arrives, I'm usually trying to soak up as much Vitamin D as possible. Between camping trips, weekend adventures, travel plans, and simply enjoying being outdoors, I tend to reach for puzzles that are a little lighter, brighter, and easier to fit into a busy summer schedule. While I still love a challenging puzzle, summer is when you'll often find me working on colorful 300 to 500 piece puzzle, or a cheerful 1000-piece puzzle. They're the kinds of puzzles I can finish over a weekend, take on a trip, or enjoy with family after a day spent outside.

To help inspire your next summer puzzle, I gathered some favorites from both myself and our Puzzle Warehouse ambassadors, along with a few puzzles that have recently caught my eye. Whether you're puzzling from a campsite, a cabin, a sunny patio, or the comfort of your air-conditioned living room, these are the puzzles we're excited about this season... CONTINUE READING

One thing I've noticed in the puzzle world lately is that beginner puzzlers can sometimes feel like they need a whole setup before they even start. You open social media and suddenly people have giant puzzle tables, fancy sorting systems, special lamps, rolling carts, box-top holders, and enough accessories to make it look like puzzling requires a full home renovation project.

But here's the thing: You absolutely do not need all of that to get started. At the end of the day, puzzling is still one of the simplest hobbies out there. Most of us started with a puzzle spread across the dining room table and whatever random household items we could repurpose along the way. So if you're brand new to puzzling, welcome! I hope you find some inspiration and are excited for you new hobby. Here's what I think you actually need to get started.... CONTINUE READING

Puzzles for on the go!

Maybe you’re gearing up for summer travel and want something small to slip into a backpack or purse for downtime at the airport, hotel, campsite, or Airbnb. Or maybe your summer plans are a little closer to home this year. Puzzle snacks are just as perfect for backyard evenings, coffee shop afternoons, park picnics, or relaxing on the couch after a busy day.

And honestly, I don’t know about you, but I don’t really want to spend a fortune on tiny travel puzzles either. One of the best parts about puzzle snacks is that most individual puzzles are under $10, and even though some are larger multi-puzzle sets they break down to a great value per puzzle... A Small Brand Worth Discovering.

This brand spotlight is a little more personal for me. I first discovered Aurora Puzzles at Portland Jigsaw Masters in 2024. At the time, it was a quick stop and I browsed the booth, said hello to Dawn, and picked up my first Aurora puzzle:Tiger of the North.

And then… it sat on my shelf for months.

It wasn’t until a friend I had attended the event with asked, “Have you tried your Aurora puzzle yet? It was so good!” So, naturally, it became my next puzzle... CONTINUE READING

I Puzzle Wrong?

As someone who shares a lot of puzzles online, I’m always a little surprised by the comments I get about how I’m doing a puzzle.

“You didn’t start with the edge and that annoys me.”
“That puzzle is ugly. Why would you do it?”
“How come you didn’t glue it? That’s such a waste of time.”

And it always makes me wonder: Can you actually puzzle wrong? ... CONTINUE READING

The average American spends around 7 hours a day on screens, with over 4–5 hours of that just on their phone. (Digital 2024 Report) And it’s not just throughout the day—nearly half of people check their phone within 10 minutes of waking up. (Statista) So it’s no surprise people are starting to crave something different...

Lately it feels like everywhere you look, people are talking about “going analogue.” Less screen time. More presence. Slower hobbies. Vinyl records are back. People are reading physical books again. Film cameras, journaling, all of it. And every time I see it, I can’t help but think… puzzlers have been doing this the whole time... CONTINUE READING

I’ve noticed something about my puzzling habits over the years; I am definitely someone who puzzles based on the season. When autumn rolls around, I start reaching for cozy cabins and autumn leaves. In winter, snowy villages and Christmas scenes suddenly feel right. But when spring arrives, I immediately want bright, colorful puzzles on my table. There’s just something about the start of a new season that makes opening a fresh puzzle even more exciting.

For me, Springtime is all about color.  After months of darkness (I like in the PMW), spring puzzles feel like a breath of fresh air. I find myself gravitating toward florals, gardens, birds, and bright landscapes.... CONTINUE READING

There has been a long-standing misunderstanding between puzzlers and their cats.

Humans believe they are quietly assembling beautiful images one piece at a time. They think they are engaging in a relaxing hobby. They think the table, the pieces, and the carefully sorted sections belong to them. We regret to inform you that this is incorrect.... CONTINUE READING

My first puzzle competition was completely spontaneous. I didn’t even know speed puzzling was a thing — I just showed up, met a puzzler (who became a good friend of mine) sat down, and started puzzling. Somehow, we placed 5th… and to this day, I truly think a lot of that was luck. Since then, I've grown a lot as a speed puzzler.  But my goal has always remained the same, don't be last....
