The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy is a water channel that forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city.  Not only is it economically useful, but it looks stunning as well, as it is literally a river cutting through the entire city of Venice.  Looking at this image, it is absolutely astonishing between the bright blue sky, the architecture of the city, and the people travelling throughout the city in the water channel.
