Peafowl, ducks, flowers and rocks, 1800–1880
Nagasaki school, Japan
Paintings of birds and flowers enjoy a long tradition in Japanese art. This hanging scroll reflects the realism of the Nagasaki school, an Edo period school or style of painting. The Edo period (1603–1868) was a time of great significance in Japan’s history because at the beginning of the seventeenth century, the country was unified under the Tokugawa family after years of civil unrest. The following years were ones of unprecedented peace and prosperity, prompting an increase in artistic, cultural and social development.

Very challenging!! Both sides were so similar.
Loved this one. Such a beautiful subject.
A little challenging, but not impossible.
As with all the Pomegranate puzzles that I've purchased, this one is well-made with standard shapes and enjoyable to put together.
High quality puzzle, lovely thick pieces, matte finish. A joy to put together.
I liked this puzzle very much. The pieces and matte finish were very nice to work with.
I am a new "puzzler" so my skill level is slowly improving. This is definitely the most difficult one we have attempted. My daughter and I sit down together. It is a large puzzle and perfect for two people. We usually work on it until the frustration increases, because puzzles are meant to satisfy. Yes we are enjoying this and welcome the stimulation.
this was a great puzzle well made pieces fit and held tight. colors were very soft and there were birds hidden in the canopy that you only see as you do the puzzle.
Very challenging with the borders and areas of similar color. The art itself is amazing and really enjoyed this puzzle.
I didn't enjoy the details of the picture as much as I expected. I am a fan of Japanese scrolls. The details of this picture seemed hazy.
This is a great puzzle. Wonderful picture, difficult but doable.
This puzzle has nice, thick pieces that fit snugly together with no ambiguity about whether the piece is right. Beautiful finished puzzle, took me about 20 hours to piece together.
Quite challenging but an excellent way to spend your stay at home hours!
This is a beautiful and challenging puzzle! Just right!
Beautiful puzzle, lots of different textures and hues. A delight to work with. Not quite as difficult as I thought when I ordered it, because there are so many distinct colors and textures to work with in various parts of the puzzle.
Beautiful puzzle! The pieces are very good quality and the colors are deep and clear. I am impressed with the Pomegranite brand.
Very high quality - matte finish compliments the antique scroll.
