Bozeman, Montana was founded in 1864 by John Bozeman. He was murdered several years later. Consequently, Fort Ellis was established to provide protection and a stabilizing influence for the area. Bozeman is nestled in the flats with several mountain ranges rising up nearby. This shot was taken several miles to the east and south of the city, looking northward. It’s striking how the farmland gives way to the rugged Rocky Mountains.
