Jim Daly says that in a sense, his paintings are just him reliving his boyhood in Los Angeles. He is a popular painter of children because he is able to convey their youthful innocence, however his own youth was punctured by wartime. Although he won a scholarship to the Art Center Collection of Design, he dropped out of high school to join the Army. Once he returned home, though, he dedicated the rest of his life to his art and family.
