My collection is titled “The Breaking”.  In this collection, I’ve explored the themes of heartbreak and disappointment as it relates to the female experience of betrayal. I have layered vibrant abstract backgrounds with bold figures and portraits to reflect the chaos and paradox of emotions and thoughts that swirl through our beings as we experience such a life changing event.  The raw marks and unfinished style of the drawings mirror the raw states of our hearts when we experience hard things.  Things change us.  We have such little control over what happens to us, but we have all the power in the world to determine how those things shape us.  Madeline Barry - Artist 

This piece was created in a moment of weakness. On the journey through recovery after betrayal, there are so many days where the heaviness of it all feels like too much to bear. It feels like you’ll never be able to get through an afternoon without weeping. 

This piece is a portrayal of how pain can make us feel lost, how it can wear on us and our identities- who we’ve always known ourselves to be. We feel like we may never be our full selves again. 

And yet there is rest as we confess our weariness. As we surrender to our exhaustion and stop trying to hold it together, there is an invitation to rest. To allow the pain to exist. As we do, we realize it isn’t as scary as it once felt. It is a part of our journey that we can accept.
