The way we listen to music has gone through revolutionary changes since music came into existence. We had 8-tracks, cassette tapes, compact discs, and today we enjoy the ease of music at our fingertips with digital downloads. (Shoutout to Napster for its profound impact on how we listen to music today!) Despite all of our various listening options, there is only one format that is still widely hailed by many music lovers as the “only way to listen to music” due to its optimum sound quality, and has withstood the test of time, like vinyl records have. Vinyl Records are SO superior that they have been bestowed their own national holiday! August 12th has been coined as National Vinyl Day, and in its honor, I dedicate this blog to vinyl records and all the joy it has brought music lovers for hundreds of years...CONTINUE READING

At several points in my life I’ve tried my hand at becoming a better cook. I’ve purchased cookbooks, asked family and friends for tips, and opened my mind to trying new tastes for my meals. Somehow, though, none of it has ever stuck with me...CONTINUE READING

I’m going to be very honest with you, July was a very difficult month and I originally had a much different blog planned. I wanted to share how puzzles have really helped me when life was just hard. In July my husband and I went to Maine to visit family. I had packed a whole suitcase of just puzzles for while I was gone. It was a three week long trip and I was so excited. However, some unexpected health diagnosis had come up with one of our family members and our time was swallowed up by everything that was going on. I went through that whole trip only doing a couple travel puzzles when I had a spare moment. What struck me though, is that now that we are back in Washington, I’ve realized how much puzzling really helps with stress and I’ve rediscovered how many of us do puzzling to unwind, destress, and zone out. Here are some things I’ve rediscovered about puzzling since my first few weeks back...CONTINUE READING

I will never be accused of being a hot weather fan. For me, the heat and humidity of summer is the perfect excuse to sit in the air-conditioned splendor and work on a jigsaw puzzle. What does get me outside despite those sultry, sunny summer temps? I’m a big fan of the fairs, festivals and farmers markets that come with the season!
Some of my favorite events are the annual art fairs in my hometown and in my adopted city, that I’ve attended for years. As an artsy person myself, I can spend hours browsing booths, getting inspired by all the creativity, and finding a one-of-a-kind piece for myself or a gift and support local artists! New York Puzzle Company’s 1000 piece Art Festival is one of over 100 New Yorker covers by illustrator and cartoonist Garret Price, who worked for the magazine for over 50 years...CONTINUE READING

Ice cream is said to be the most patriotic food in the US and is considered a national symbol of America. I could write a whole blogpost just on the history of ice cream but I’ll just redirect you to this article on the History of Ice Cream in the US. If you want the cliff notes version, ice cream was a symbol of the US during World War I when sugar was rationed world wide. “By the time World War II occurred, ice cream had become inseparable from the American way of life, an emblem of American comfort, freedom, and democracy (Siegel, 2021). While the rest of the world banned ice cream as part of their rationing efforts, the US doubled down and built ice cream factories on the front lines to deliver ice cream to allied ships, distributing 135 million pounds of dehydrated ice cream base in 1943 alone. Thanks to President Reagan in 1984, July became National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of July, was proclaimed National Ice Cream Day. It is your patriotic duty to eat ice cream...CONTINUE READING

A question as old as time … Beach or Mountains?
